As political parties head out to the election campaign, they are being urged to promise they’ll make changes to the fast-track law when Parliament resumes.
Auckland councillor Richard Hills, an outspoken critic of fast-tracked housing projects, has worked with Mayor Wayne Brown’s office to write a bill that would remove residential developments from the fast-track legislation.
“The purpose of the bill is to prohibit residential activity in the rural area from being progressed under the principal act. The prohibition is intended to apply to all rural zones, including Future Urban Zones.”
National and New Zealand First have labelled the bill a “political stunt”.
But Hills laughed that off.
