In “Different era, same spot,” she connected earlier attempts to develop the land with the current application.
Her perspective is shaped by her former role as an RMA Commissioner, which she chose not to renew amid concerns about weakening environmental prudence.
It is also grounded in her work helping create the Kaipara ki Mahurangi electorate, with its focus on caring for communities, harbours, mountains and rivers.
As a Ngāti Whatua local resident and Waimauku Community Association member, Jane has continued that advocacy by meeting with MP Chris Penk and lodging a statement of response with relevant ministers and the two Fast-track consenting teams.
Having received their responses, they are now being assessed alongside similar Fast-track applications, as discussed on the night.
